| |
The overall objectives of this component are
to
- Improve the physical and operational
performance of selected tanks through a range of
interventions identified and executed by local
tank users, including any necessary treatment of
the feeder drainage channels above the tank
reservoir,
- Improve on-farm water
management, cropping patterns, technology
adoption and crop cultural practices to improve
agricultural and horticulture production and
incomes,
- Establish other income generating
activities associated with the tank system, and
- Identify and prototype other opportunities
to optimize the productivity and income
generation from tank systems.

A pre-planning review and analysis of some 3,000 candidate tanks within the nine districts and 34 taluks of the project, among which some 2,000 tanks would be selected for treatment, would determine the scope of the component. The scope of work for tank improvement and the supporting activities to improve agricultural and other income generating activities associated with each tank would be determined on the basis of detailed ITDPs prepared through a participatory consultation and decision process with tank users groups. The actual activities selected for inclusion in an individual ITDP would be chosen from a menu of possible candidate physical works and specific supporting activities for improving agricultural production and incomes and other income generating activities for each tank. |
