The World Bank assisted KCBTMP is a unique initiative in
the History of tank management in the State having
community centered approach. It has created wide space
for the women to participate in each and every process
of Tank Development and Management as equal partners to
improve their livelihood by focusing on both strategic &
practical need/ concerns.
Women being the main stakeholders of tank in their
dependency on tank system for their livelihood. The
Project therefore, envisages main streaming gender
concerns in the project. Women are considered/
recognized as particularly vulnerable group in the
society & as such requires focused support.The
Project would seek to empower women:
- Economically: Through skill & knowledge
development/ enhancement in tank related IGA,
Employment generation in tank civil work etc.
- Socially: Through collective action to gain
decision making and negotiation powers
Main Object of Gender Strategy:
- To main stream women concerns and meaningful
participation of women in all the tank development
and management activities.
- To develop a plan for addressing both strategic and
practical gender needs of women and to implement the
same appropriately.
- To build linkage with line department and other
developmental institution to access knowledge & resource
base.
- To ensure utilization of IGA/Revolving fund for
taking up viable IGA for economic up-liftment of
vulnerable women members of TMI.

2. Prioritisation in Women
representation:

Ensuring one woman from each
household to become a member in the TMI (equal
membership opportunity).

Ensuring 1/3 women representation in
the Executive Committee of TMI.

Ensuring one of the Principal Office
Bearers position with cheque signing power for women
in the Executive Committee of TMI– Mandatory.

Ensuring substantial representation
in the supervisory committees of TMI.

Formation of Women Interest Group
(WIG) and regularise its monthly meetings to
discuss, identify, analyze, priorities women
concerns as well as to plan and implement
accordingly.
3. Space created for Participation in
Training and Capacity Building Activities: With the prime objective of improving
the meaningful and active participation of women stake
holders as well as to improve their skill, knowledge and
ability to take care of the day to day tank management
affairs of TMI, enough space is created as mentioned
